Musically Speaking! The Project! ...an unlikely group of CIA operatives, FBI deep cover agents and heavy metal musicians join forces in a highly classified operation known only as ...the Project! OK, so I've watched one too many episodes of X-Files and Alias. I'm guilty as charged. UPDATE: The project described below and on other pages of this site has taken off in a way I never expected! I've hooked up with some great musicians and vocalists from a variety of 80's and 90's bands and the show is coming together great! Feel free to review this section of the site, as well as the gallery and practice sets to get the gist of the material we're doing! Keep in mind, this is my personal site that I was developing in order to get this off the ground. I've started a new site called Monsters Of Rock for the band itself. As I mentioned the focus is 80's rock music. More specifically '75 thru '95 or so. To get a better picture of exactly what my tastes are, check out my Practice Sets from the menu on left. In the mean time, think... Judas Priest, Poison, Kiss, Heart, Motley Crue, Guns and Roses, Joan Jett, etc... and you'll be on the right track. My goal is to create the ultimate kick you in the teeth, non stop party band dedicated and marketed specifically to that era and the fans of that era, who are tired of going to clubs and not recognizing half the songs after paying a $5 (or more) cover. Speaking of not recognizing tunes ...another important factor is that all the tunes are "A" songs, not "B" material, obscurities or originals. It's one thing to jam on some of that stuff, but for a targeted club performance, the crowd is going to want to know the song. So I'm stuck in the 80's ...the bottom line is, I'm not getting any younger here and this will probably be my last opportunity, so yeah... I'm looking for like minded individuals to come together for this thing! If you get off on the music of that era, then this is a great opportunity to get together and jam. No commitment for now, lets just see if we click. If so, that's a start! Ideally, the band should be exceptionally strong, vocally. There are a lot of bands out there with good musicians, but I'd like to see us have the vocals to really pull it all together. For the sake of diversity, I would love to have at least one guitar player be a female vocalist, or for that matter a female keyboard/vocalist... so if you are a rocker chic and into these tunes... don't hesitate! I would love to blend in some Heart, Benetar, Jett, etc. Another important item... I'm looking for people with stable jobs, lifes, families, etc... who are past the point where they actually think they are going to get rich and famous doing this! I don't want to have to play 4 or 5 nights a week, taking every low end job, because we "have" to. Rather than turning it into just another low paying job, I'd rather practice often, have a ton of fun, but only play 1 or 2 well planned, well promoted and well attended jobs per month... not just for good money... but for the enjoyment of kicking some serious ass with an audience that is in tune with what we are doing and a band that mutually enjoys this material the way I do. I want to play for the enjoyment of putting on a killer show, and if we make some money to support our habit, so much the better! I want to create a show that people will remember when they walk out the door. Any band can stand there like soldiers and play their songs, but it takes a certain attitude and flair to PERFORM them the way they should be. Some of you are nodding your head, saying... "yeah"... others are saying "what the hell is he talking about".... oh well. You can get more detail on my experience, equipment, etc. in the Bio section. I have plenty of experience, with noteworthy credits of Valhalla in the early 80's performing classic rock and most notably Dirty Tryxx from the late 80's performing hairspray and hard rock. I have plenty of practice space just outside Hazleton, as well as a small practice PA, and, I'm available to rehearse any day or night of the week. If you're liking what you're reading so far, send me an E and maybe we can start building a project. Here are some other points, questions, answers, etc.... Q. Are you open to material other than the songs posted in the setlists? A. Sure, as long as they fit the focus of the project and are "A" list material. Ideally, I'd love to find like minded musicians, and use a good portion of my current material as a core, but yes, there was a lot of great music between 75 and 95! Bring it on. Q. Do you actually know all of the songs currently posted on this site? A. Yes. Right now there are about 120 tunes. Due to the number of practice days it takes to get through them all, they are all consistantly at about 90% play ready. I can have any 30-40 of them 100% play ready in a week if I had to. I will also be posting another set in a day or two that will include: Grand Illusion - Styx Green Manalishi - Judas Priest When You Love - The B'zz Line of Fire - Journey If Looks Could Kill - Heart Long Way to Love - Britney Fox Down on me - Jackyl American band - Jackyl Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benetar Deuce - Kiss Girlschool - Britney Fox Q. Is your practice space safe and secure? A. Yes. I own a home with a large finished basement with most of the area opened up for rehearsal. There are no children in the house and pets can not get to the basement. Q. How often are you available to rehearse? A. I'm available pretty much any number of days and enjoy rehearsal almost as much as playing to a room. Whatever it takes for us to sound great! Q. What is your ideal line up? A. I prefer a 5 piece with 2 guitars, bass, drums and keyboard as my ideal situation. To me that line up provides the most diversity and richness. Again, that's ideal. If we can get a great front man but not a keyboard player, thats fine too, but I really love the fullness that comes with a keyboard in the mix. Q. Are you open to a female in the band? A. Absolutely, in fact I'd prefer it. I am a big fan of Heart, Jett, etc., and I believe that a female vocal can really round out the set list not just on lead vocals, but harmony backups, etc. Q. Are there any age issues? A. Not specifically, but it makes sense that if you're younger than late 20's it might be difficult for you to get a handle on why I make such an issue of finding folks with stable lifes, jobs, etc., or why I don't want to play 3 or 4 nights a week. The sweet spot is probably age 30 to 45, but hell, if you're 28 and into this material, and aren't looking to go on the road or do originals ...c'mon down! If you have any other questions, or think you might be into trying something, drop me an E! |
